It came as a shock to all of us when Mandla Mamphumula aka Mampintsha was confirmed dead on the 24th of December 2022. Since then Mzansi has been in mourning and a lot of fans have been worried about Mampintsha’s wife Babes Wodumo (real name Bongekile Maphumulo, formerly, Simelane).
The popular musician and businessman Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo died on Christmas Eve at the age of 40, just days after his record label announced that he had suffered a stroke and was in the hospital recovering.
The Simelane and Maphumulo family briefed the media on his untimely passing and addressed multiple issues, including the comments regarding the star and his wife, Bongekile “Babes Wodumo” Simelane.
Family spokesperson Zanele Maphumulo said: “With regards to Babes, as I have said before, when you lose your loved one, it is not easy. For the past two days she was not okay but we are a family that believes in God, we pray for everything, and the prayers of both families, the Simelane’s and the Maphumulo’s, have helped and sustained her. Thanks to social media we got a glimpse of Babes Wodumo as she mourns her husband Mampintsha…
Even in mourning Babes Wodumo managed a smile… Lets hope she is okay, we know she can never fully recover from this loss.
The family also shared details of his memorial service, which is set to be held on Thursday in Durban Central, and said that his funeral would take place on Friday. However, the details have not yet been finalized and would be shared in due course.
“The funeral will be on Friday, we are still sourcing the venue with the help of the government, which has come on board to assist us as we all know that this was an icon in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

The drama between the families of the late Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo and Babes Wodumo continues. Following reports that Mampintsha’s mother was denied access to her son’s body in Westville, reports have now emerged that she was rushed to hospital after collapsing. It is no secret that Babes Wodumo’s and Mampintsha’s families have been at loggerheads for the longest time.
In the latest season of the couple’s reality show Uthando Lodumo, their families appeared to have let bygones be bygones, but following Mampintsha’s death, the drama is reportedly heating up again.
