A foundation in honour of Zola 7 has been started after it was rumoured that he is very sick and could not afford his medical bills. This foundation was apparently going to assist with his hospital bills to treat his sickness and also to help with his children’s school fees as well as his living expenses. However, Zola 7 and his team know nothing about it.
This foundation was reportedly started by media personality Zola Hashatsi, who met up with Zola 7 after his death hoax. To prove to the masses that the legend was alive, he and Cruz Afrika paid him a visit at his home after the death hoax. It was then when Zola Hashatsi apparently decided to start a foundation to assist his best friend. This is according to Daily Sun who then reported that Zola 7 knows nothing about it.
In a statement made by his team at Z7 and Guluva Entertainment, sent to Daily Sun, the star rubbishes the foundation, saying it was created without his knowledge. He distances himself from the foundation and warns his fans to not donate anything to it.
“Z7 Media and Guluva Records herby distance themselves from this foundation. We have no knowledge whatsoever regarding the business of this foundation and we wish to further state that this foundation was established without knowledge of Bonginkosi Dlamini (Zola 7) or any of his staff,” the statement reads as quoted by the publication.
They say this foundation disrespects Zola 7 as they are seeking to use him for their own personal gains.
We, therefore, urge all South Africans and co-operates to not donate resources to this foundation. Bonginkosi and his staff would like to express disappointment at such a campaign and initiative as it borders on disrespect for him and using his brand for personal gains,” the statement continues.
According to the statement, although he is grateful for people’s concerns and would accept donations should he be in desperate need, right now he is good. The statement also goes on to refute rumours of him being hospitalised. Zola is just trying to live his new normal as he was diagnosed with Chronic Epilepsy.
In an interview with Mac G on his Podcast And Chill in May, Zola detailed his life as an Epileptic patient.
“I lost a lot of weight over the past year. I was extremely sick, I was home and I was shaking. Everybody around me was scared I was going to die. I couldn’t eat well. I was eating Mageu, porridge and Fish.
“Nowadays I have to take medication twice a day just to get by. I was very sick during that song (with Cassper) and I think we did about 25 cuts. I was fighting to look normal, but I wasn’t. I was extremely very sick during that video,” he explained.
When news of his “death” made rounds, his best friend Hashatsi paid him a visit and they joked about him being dead. Although Zola 7 made light of the situation, death hoaxes are not a nice thing, especially because he is not well. His friend spoke to the publication saying the foundation was only a surprise, hence his lack of knowledge about it.
Hashatsi then continued to say he only wants the nation to return the favour as Zola has helped many people during his prime.
“I was just lending my helping hand, because remember when they declared him dead a few weeks back I was one of the people who reached out to him to, and in that moment, I spoke to the partner who told me what they needed and how I can assist and the foundation was meant to cover those needs, not bring any shame to him, I honestly meant well,” clarified Hashatsi.
