Who Will Conquer The Soweto Derby Today#CBL

It is always an interesting match whenever these 2 teams meet. This is by far the most tense game ever we see when these teams clash.

As Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates prepare to square off in another Soweto Derby and we take a look at which of the Soweto giants has the historical advantage over the past decade.

The first Soweto Derby was contested in 1970, shortly after Amakhosi’s formation and throughout the years, fans of the local game have been blessed with some magical moments that will forever live in their memories. However, over the last 10 years of league encounters, the Derby has come under scrutiny for a high number of stalemates, with 11 of those games ending in draws.

With that said, Chiefs have won five of those 20 league encounters and Pirates have won four. However, since the formation of the Carling Black Label Cup, it is Pirates that have been dominant, with four wins that all came via penalty shootouts. Chiefs have two wins, including last season’s victory courtesy of goals from Erick Mathoho and Lewis Macha, and will be looking to catch up on Pirates to give their fans something to shout about.

However, over the previous six editions of the tournament, only seven goals have been scored, with none of those games returning more than two goals from either team over the course of 90 minutes or added time, in the instances where an added 30 minutes was necessary.

Nonetheless, fans of either club and neutrals alike will be eager to see the teams contest yet another Soweto Derby to get an idea of what will transpire in the upcoming season.
