A woman was trapped in her car and as many as 15 children were injured Monday morning after she collided with a minibus taxi on Beyers Naude Drive close to CR Swart Road in Randpark Ridge.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics found a badly damaged minibus taxi and light motor vehicle on the side of the road. The entire front and side of the minibus taxi had been completely smashed open.

Paramedics assessed the injured and found that 15 children, aged between 4 and 6, had sustained minor to moderate injuries.

Meiring said the driver of the light motor vehicle sustained moderate injuries, but was trapped in her vehicle, which lay on its side. Rescue services used the jaws-of-life equipment to free her.

Local authorities are investigating.
