Former Bafana Bafana and now SuperSport United midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane takes courage from their CAF Confederation Cup progress regardless of the result that they will bring in their final group match today.
SuperSport continue their duties today as they take on bottom of the group CF Mounana in a must-win clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium (15h30).
The Tshwane side are currently third in Group D, with seven points from five games, and trail joint leaders TP Mazembe and Horoya by two points heading into the final round of fixtures this weekend.
Mazembe and Horoya square off in Lubumbashi at 14h30 this afternoon, with a victory for either team ensuring top spot while opening the door for Matsatsantsa to take second place, should they beat Mounana.
Letsholonyane is happy that the team has stuck to it’s pre-season promise of competing in every competition, and has praised the joint efforts of the squad in ensuring they have come this far in their continental campaign.
“It feels good to be in the situation we are in now as a team. It says a lot about the players and the support that we get from the whole team,” said ‘Yeye’.
“We said at the start of last season that we want to compete for every trophy that is available and we’ve done that.
“We will continue working hard to get as far as possible in every tournament that we compete in.”
With permutations down to every fine detail, the 35-year-old says they are well aware of what they need to do in order to make it through the group, but cannot deny the fact that their fate does not completely lie in their own hands.
“We know what is expected of us and what [result] can make us qualify or not. We know this one we have to win, and whatever happens on the other side of the continent [between Mazembe and Horoya] is out of our control,” he noted.
