One dead, eight still missing as boat capsizes in PE
A chokka boat with 16-fishermen on board capsized off St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape on Sunday.
According to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), one fisherman’s body was recovered while seven survivors were rescued, of which six have been hospitalised and reported to be in a stable condition. Eight crew members are still missing.
“2 Chokka fishing vessels, Silver Eagle and Megalodon, diverted to investigate and the Chokka fishing vessel Maredon was then confirmed to have capsized,” the NSRI says in a statement.
“It appears that Silver Eagle came upon a life-raft and reported that the life-raft had drifted too close into towards the rocks and could not be reached.
