Retired football veteran Marks Maponyane’s alleged habit of collecting p0rn0graphy has emerged as one of the reasons his former wife Sylvia blew the final whistle on their marital derby of 22 years.
The soccer commentator’s alleged penchant for blue movies was thrust into the spotlight after she laid a complaint with the Department of Justice against a Tembisa Magistrate’s Court prosecutor, whom she accused of inflicting secondary trauma on her.
She alleged that when she discussed the assault case she reported against Maponyane at the Midrand Police Station and his porn collection – apparently as one of their reasons for drifting apart – the prosecutor whipped out his cellphone and showed her a photo of a naked woman justifying the former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker’s action.
Sylvia’s complaint rattled feathers, and the Department of Justice’s head of promotion of the rights of vulnerable groups, Praise Kambula, wrote an e-mail to advocate Andrew Chauke, head of the NPA Gauteng local division, instructing him to investigate the prosecutor’s alleged conduct.
The e-mail, which was seen by Sunday World, reads as follows: “He [prosecutor] also took out his cellphone and showed Mrs Maponyane a photo of a n@ked woman justifying Mr Maponyane’s alleged habit of receiving and keeping pornographic material on his cellphone
