The suspect’s blind and pregnant girlfriend was allegedly there when the crime happened on Sunday.
The couple had gone to a shebeen in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni for a few drinks where they spent some time with Thembelihle.
They later went to Thembelihle’s place, where the man allegedly raped and killed Thembelihle before stuffing her naked body under the bed.
Thembelihle’s family only found out about her death three days later.
Her sister, Sibongile Tshabalala (51) told the People’s Paper that neighbours called her on Tuesday and told her what had happened.
“I rushed to her place and found cops and neighbours surrounding her house,” Sibongile said.
“I was shocked when I saw her lifeless, naked body lying under the bed,” said Sibongile.
She said Thembelihle loved life and friends.
“It’s very sad how she died,” the grieving sister said.
“I hope the culprit will face the might of the law.”
Thembelihle’s girlfriend Sinqobile Jele (22) said she is heartbroken.
“She was a sweet, happy and loving person,” Sinqobile said.
“She loved me and we were planning big things together.
“Her brutal murder has shocked me,” she said.
Thembelihle’s friend Nelly Siwela (24) said the suspect does not deserve bail.
“He must be locked up for life,” she said.
Daveyton police spokesman Captain Alfred Nakana said a murder case was opened.
The suspect has appeared in court.
Thembelihle was buried at Phumula Cemetery in Daveyton yesterday.
