UBER DRIVERS CONTINUE TO DRIVE BUT THEY ARE AT RISK
Uber drivers are being lured by clients who end up robbing them of their money, their car or even their lives!
It seems it never rains but it pours for Uber taxi drivers!
Just when it appeared as if their fights with metered taxi drivers were subsiding, now they’re under new attack.
According to Gauteng police spokesman Captain Kay Makhubele, the latest Uber attack was an attempted hijacking in Roodepoort in the early hours of Sunday morning. An arrest was made in Sophiatown.
“On the same day, an Uber driver had acid poured on him during a hijacking. However, no one has been arrested in that incident,” he said.
Cops arrested three suspects who allegedly robbed five Uber drivers in Midrand on Friday.
On Thursday, a video of an attack on a white Toyota Corolla Uber in Hillbrow was posted on social media. In the video several men are seen hitting the car with sticks.
As the white Corolla neared McDonald’s, a grey Nissan Altima is spotted, also under attack. This led to outrage and people took to social media, calling for a march against metered taxi drivers.
Makhubele said they’re investigating but no arrests have been made.
Patricia Richards said on Facebook: “Uber should stop cash clients. At least with a credit cards, they can trace those assholes.”
Uber spokeswoman Samantha Allenberg said: “It’s upsetting. We’re investigating the incidents and have reached out to the partner’s family to check on his wellbeing and offer our support. We are ready to help the police with their investigations.”
