And one of her secrets is tortoise pee and poo!
The 69-year-old from Gugulethu in Cape Town said people come from all over Mzansi for her special muthi.
She told Daily Sun: “When people visit me, I make one of the animals shit in a dish full of water. I then give the client the mixture to wash with every day.”
Nongoku said tortoises are helpful animals and nothing could be hidden from them.
“When I take one of my tortoises to a house with bad spirits, it will roam around and stop at the spot where the problem is,” she said.
Nongoku got her first tortoise in 1963 after a dream directed her to it and she named it Umncunube.
“I had a dream that the tortoise was going to help me heal people.
“It was waiting for me when I found it and we’ve been working together since then.
“I now have five of them helping me,” she said.
According to Nongoku, tortoises are clean animals and don’t like evil spirits.
She said people came to her for her special mixture to help them with marriage problems, bad luck and illness.
She said she regards the animals as her children.
“Just like with a child, I can see when they are not feeling well and I need to take them to a vet. I have a permit for them and they mostly eat cabbage and fruit,” she said.
