Details of a mammoth drama series set to match Yizo Yizo on SABC1 are being closely guarded.
It has however, come to our attention that the teaser trailer flighted as “coming soon” is that of the gangster thriller Tjovitjo – He Wena , set to hit the small screen next month as noted by SundayWorld.
SABC1 publicist Phillip Mabitsela said: “We are currently not in a position to assist with responses to questions regarding the show.
“We are still in the process of sourcing publicity material and some elements are yet to be confirmed.”
The show’s storyline centres around espionage, a lot of pantsula dance and twerking, with hoodlums and racketeering being the main theme and essence.
The drama boasts a star-studded cast, including multi-award-winning actor Warren Masemola, Rapulana Seiphemo of the soapie Generations: The Legacy and Jerusalema the movie fame, Thembi Seete of SABC1’s Yizo Yizo and Gaz’lam, and Harriet Manamela of Yizo Yizo, Isidingo and Skeem Saam, in lead roles.
Many are of the opinion the new series is geared towards rivalling the recently aired Mzansi Magic drama iNumber Number, featuring heavyweights Sdumo Mtshali and Presley Chweneyagae in opposing roles and leading women Zola Nombona of Z’bondiwe and Lockdown, as well as Thishiwe Ziqubu of Rhythm City and Tempy Pushas.
M-Net had commissioned the spin-off series of the award-winning movie iNumber Number, that received various international film festival accolades following its release in 2013.
The trailer, currently being shown on YouTube, received a lot of feedback from those who viewed it and most of the viewers can’t wait for the show to hit the small screen. Lemohang Sekhoto said; “excited!” Modise Sepeng commented: “Amazing work guys, cant wait to see this.”
Athi Sobada posted: “Pantsula will rise, Benga will Die?” and Innocent Dlamini said: “This looks too legit. I so wish that they could have received the funding they needed for it to be a theatrical release.”
