He went outside to see what was happening, and says without any warning, he was punched in the face by a cop.
That was only the beginning of the ordeal for Neo Mabaso (16) from Meredale, south of Joburg, last Monday.
He said the cops accused him of kidnapping three girls. “I didn’t even know what they were talking about,” said Neo.
He said he was pushed into a police car and driven to another house to pick up a boy Neo had never seen.
“I was told the guy was my friend and we were planning a party so we kidnapped the girls,” he said.
They were taken to the Mondeor Police Station where a group of detectives started beating them.
“One cop kicked my 4-5 repeatedly,” Neo claimed.
He said when the girls who were supposedly kidnapped were brought in, they said they didn’t know them!
He said the cops realised they had the wrong suspects and he was released.
Neo and his father Phillemon Mabaso went to the police station but no one was willing to help them. “They refused to open a case,” Neo said.
Warrant Officer Lorraine van Emmerik said a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm was opened at Joburg Central and the docket was transferred to Mondeor SAPS.
Constable Sibongile Mnguni from Mondeor said: “ Neo was taken for questioning, not arrested.
“He assisted in the investigation. Police are not allowed to assault anyone.
“Members of the public can open a case at any police station against the police and it will be investigated accordingly.”
