THE community of Tshivhungululu, outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo, is gripped with grief.This follows the killing of a 60-year-old gogo, allegedly by her 17-year-old granddaughter.
The gogo’s sin was to reprimand the girl for bunking school.According to Limpopo police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the incident happened at about 4pm on Friday when the two were at home.
Mojapelo said a fight between the two started where the gogo tried to grab the girl to beat her.The girl allegedly kicked the gogo in the stomach and she sustained severe stomach injuries.
“An ambulance was called and the gogo was taken to Donald Frazer Hospital, where she later died.”The suspect, who is a minor, appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrates Court on Monday.
She is expected to appear again today.Meanwhile, Munna Ndi Nnyi Men’s Forum chairman Bardwell Mufunwaini expressed shock at the incident.
“I have dealt with so many cases but this one is unique.“We are shocked to hear of girls being involved in such crimes.
“All the time we portray men as perpetrators of violence against women but even young girls are involved.“This is shocking,” said Mufunwaini.He urged parents to monitor their children’s behaviour.
