Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates played to a goalless draw in a Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
In the past two seasons thhese two teams played three drawn in the league.
Pirates enjoyed a lot of possession in the early stages but the Amakhosi were waiting to pounce on counter-attacks and Bernard Parker had a chance on the break in the 10 minute, but Wayne Sandilands reacted quickly to avert the danger inside the box.
Siyabonga Ngezana was unlucky in the 27th minute as he hit the bottom of the upright with a downward header inside the box after beating two markers to connect with George Maluleke a set-piece.
Minutes later, Khune was called upon once again as he produced another fine save to keep out Thabo Qalinge’s powerful low strike from 25-yards out.
Pirates were frustrated by the hosts playing deep in their own half, with clear-cut chances hard to come by. As a result the first half ended without any goals.
Chiefs found their attacking stride in the second half.
Siphiwe Tshabalala forced a save from Wayne Sandilands with a shot curled from a narrow angle on the left of the box.
Willard Katsande’s close-range header forced another fine stop from Pirates’ goalkeeper.
Pirates substitute Bernard Morrison had the ball in the net form Makola’s ball across goal‚ but was ruled offside.
With 10 minutes left Maluleka’s cross floated in from the right found Cardoso‚ who produced a defender’s volley over the crossbar.
In other League match that was played on Saturday Polokwane City held Golden Arrows to a 2-2 at Princess Magogo Stadium, KwaMashu.
Rise and Shine man of the moment Rodney Ramagalela scored the opener which was cancelled by Knox Mutizwa’s equalizer in the first half.
In the second half there were also two goals from Thomas Chideu and Sammy Seabi.
