MAPASEKA Mofokeng is lucky to be alive today.
The shooting happened on Christmas Eve, just outside the Senekal Magistrates Court in the Free State.
The 41-year-old woman from Tambo Village was rushed to a private hospital in Bethlehem. She is now recovering at home.
According to Sehloho’s nephew, his uncle Tumelo Makibinyane (30), had been trying to avoid Mapaseka for the past few weeks.
“The problem started when they went to buy Christmas clothes for my aunt’s children.
She complained that her kids also needed clothes and told him not to spend too much on his wife’s children,” he said.
According to Tumelo, his uncle told him that Mapaseka was harassing him.
He said on the day of the shooting, Mapaseka confronted Sehloho at his workplace. After they had exchanged insults, Sehloho took out his pistol and shot her, then himself.
Tumelo said his uncle had warned that he would shoot Mapaseka. Their affair was kept secret because he was married.
Mapaseka’s younger sister, Pulane Mofokeng, said the family was still in shock. She said they didn’t know that Mapaseka was having an affair until she was shot. “I’m glad she survived because she is the breadwinner at home,” Pulane said.
A case of attempted murder and an inquest docket were opened by Senekal police.
