MZANSI STORMED BY A FOUR- HOUR GUN FIGHT
It all started when the robbers intended to rob a bottle little did they know it would spread to be a Kasi fight as the whole community joined in.
Yesterday a gun battle between the robbers and cops in Philippi’s Browns Farm started at 1am and ended at 5am that morning.Terrified residents told Daily Sun they could do nothing but cower in fear as bullets struck their shacks.
A security guard and three constables aged 26, 33, 44 were shot and wounded during the attempted business robbery at Dali Liquors.Four suspects, aged between 33 and 35, were arrested and one firearm was confiscated.
Resident Zukhanye Maqonga said: “There were sounds of gunfire everywhere. I didn’t dare go outside because I was afraid.”
Dumisani Pato (39), from Siyahlala squatter camp, said her family was traumatised when a bullet pierced their shack while they were fast asleep.
“We thought we were going to die. It felt as if they were shooting at our shack. The bullet broke our TV before hitting our bedroom wall.”
Western Cape police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut confirmed the arrests.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
“Once they have been charged, the suspects will appear in court.”
