TEEN mum Dineo Chauke went to hospital to give birth.
But her mum says nurses treated her so badly she begged to go home to die in peace.
The 18-year-old died the day after going home, leaving her four-day-old baby daughter orphaned.
Dineo of Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, was admitted to the Mapulaneng Hospital last week after her waters broke.
Soon after giving birth she complained of abdominal pain and no feeling in her legs.
Her mum, Mildred Sibanda (40), told Daily Sun: “I saw her stomach swell and begged the nurses to help her. The nurses ignored my daughter. She cried and begged for help, but they said they were sick and tired of her.”
“A nurse said they helped her give birth and that was all they were prepared to do.”
Mildred said Dineo kept crying, but nurses shook their heads and insulted her.
“One nurse said loudly they wouldn’t touch Dineo because of her big mouth. My daughter begged me to take her home. She said she would rather die in peace at home.”
That was on Sunday. On Monday night, Dineo’s cries woke Mildred up. She was rolling on her bed. “There was nothing I could do to help my daughter.”
“Dineo said it was all over. She looked away and died,” she said.
Mildred said she didn’t have funeral money as her family survived on social grants. “I don’t know how I will raise the baby.”
Health spokesman Ronnie Masilela said if the allegations against the nurses proved to be true, serious action would follow.
