Hailing from the Soweto township, Mondli Mashini popularly known as DJ Fresca has gone solo on his second album which hits the shelves on September 9.

He is no newbie to the music industry, having worked under soul candi as a music lecturer to being a disc jockey on SA’s biggest youth radio station YFM during the times of DJ Khabzela.

DJ Fresca says his music journey goes back to the 90’s.

“I have been on this house music journey since the days of Oskido. I have always desired to be like him. I started my hustle then with the mission of getting into the industry.

The famous DJ of hit song Amaphoyisa featuring Black Motions says his biggest breakthrough started at a community radio station.

“I started at Jozi FM as a disc jockey, and then moved to YFM working with Khabzela as a mix DJ, I progressed to being a production lecturer at Soul Candi and even released my first album under their record label.

“This is where I made my first hit titled Into-engekhoyo, but the song that landed me on an international scale was Amaphoyisa. It took me to New York, London, Atlanta and since then I have not turned back,” he says.

Fresca’s second offering titled “Long Awaited” album is a fuse of sounds he had picked up during travelling.

He says his new sound distinguishes him from other DJs and allows him to present who Fresca is through music.

“I have matured from my previous album, I am exposing the real me, it distinguishes me from the time when I was hustling and working with people.

“My new album is a variety package fusing different cultures, African sound as well as tribal.

From his new album, his single Mayo Mayo has dropped at various radio stations such as Metro FM and YFM.

In production of his new release DJ Fresca worked alongside a new group Afro Fuse recently signed under his record label Social Underground Music.

The album that hits the shelves in spring features Kalawa Jazzmee hit makers, Black Motions and Uhuru.
