Then on Saturday, the man was promised R2000 more to dump a black beheaded chicken in the widow’s yard and steal two more pairs of panties.
But he was nearly caught by the woman’s son, Godsave Hlatshwayo (18), who heard him rummaging in the darkness of the yard of the house in Islington Village, near Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.
As the thief fled he dropped the panties but left behind the beheaded chicken and a
Godsave’s girlfriend began getting calls asking if the family was aware of the break-in.
“The thief admitted coming to the house twice and said he was sent by three people: a female neighbour, a local woman and an old man,” his mother Kate Nyalungu (41) said.
With cops’ help, the caller was traced and arrested, and he pointed out the trio.
A crowd bayed for their blood and cops had to rescue them before they were set alight.
Colonel Thandekile Nobela confirmed a 34-year-old man was arrested on a house-breaking charge. The trio were questioned and kept at the cop shop for their own safety.
Traditional healer Dr Annuary Ndlovu said this could pose a serious threat to the family.
