The Cops were hunting a conman who had robbed a man of more than R4 million, claiming it was for a secure investment with great returns. But when they found the conman, there was another surprise waiting for them…
The Sandton police bust the suspect with bundles of cash to the tune of R30 million – but it was all FAKE!
The 22-year-old man from Cameroon was arrested on Tuesday night.
Sandton police spokesman Constable David Mothapo said the man was behind bars and would appear in court soon in connection with theft under false pretenses and possession of counterfeit money.
“He allegedly scammed a 57-year-old victim into investing money, promising him great returns from the investment,” said Mothapo.
Police warn the public to be extra vigilant when investing their money.
“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is not true,” he said. “People should not fall for such scams.”
Mothapo added: “They should report the suspects to the police without delay so that a thorough investigation can be launched.”
