KELLY Khumalo raised eyebrows by attending the Feather Awards on Wednesday night just two weeks after the burial of her lover and father of her child, Senzo Meyiwa.
Speaking to Daily Sun about her attendance at the event held in Sandton, Joburg, African Cultural Heritage Trust chairman Qhunzilini Sithole said girlfriends are recognised in Zulu culture.
“Even though she wasn’t his wife she is still expected to mourn for between six months and a year,” he said.
He said Kelly needs to be cleansed by both familes.
“What’s more important is that she must not have sex for at least six months.”
Earlier on Wednesday evening, she had a phone interview with Metro FM DJ Criselda Kananda. When asked why she was not observing the mourning period, she asked: “Was lobola paid for me?”
At the event Kelly seemed to be having fun.
She blew kisses at people and hugged others before leaving just after 11pm.
She was overheard saying: “Leave the past behind and let’s move on.”
An insider told the People’s Paper that many couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw her.
Kelly wouldn’t talk to the SunTeam but her manager Percy Vilakazi said: “The past two weeks have been difficult, but life goes on.”
