Mzansi Songstress Kelly Khumalo is getting ready to serenade music lovers in a one-woman show for Women’s Month.
The performance will take place at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City, Joburg on Thursday, 24 August.
This will be Kelly’s first solo concert in the 13 years she has been in the music industry. According to the singer, the show is meant to inspire other women to tell their stories in their own voices.
“I also want to encourage the women of this country to stand up against any form of abuse.
“Take back the power and remind the nation what it means to say ‘Wa thinta umfazi, wa thinta imbokodo’,” she said.
The Uthando singer said people often ask her where she finds her strength.
“My answer is that I have a strong support system. This includes my family, friends and most important of all, my loyal supporters.
“This is my way of providing support to other women through my music and personal story.
“I want to tell women all over the world that they have the power to rise above any situation and from any form of abuse.”
She said from the minute she entered the industry, she had always been in the spotlight.
“I never had the chance to enjoy being a musician and to find my feet. A lot has happened and newspapers have always written about me.
“But now, 13 years later, I feel I am in the right space to own my story and my experiences, so my show is titled My Truth.”
Legendary singer Robbie Malinga will also be on stage on Thursday.
