SuperSport broke the deadlock as early as the sixth minute as Bradley Grobler picked out Jeremy Brockie, who skipped past Lorenzo Gordinho and rifled the ball past Itumeleng Khune.Kaizer Chiefs crashed out of the MTN8 after suffering a 1-0 loss to SuperSport United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Chiefs struggled to settle in the early stages but they went close to equalising in the 22nd minute when Siphiwe Tshabalala’s effort deflected onto the upright.Ronwen Williams was then called into action in the 35th minute as the shot-stopper produced a fine save to tip Bernard Parker’s effort over the crossbar.
Steve Komphela’s charges were camped in the SuperSport half for the remaining 10 minutes of the stanza, as the likes Tshabalala and Hendrick Ekstein saw a lot of the ball.
However, the Eric Tinkler’s charges managed to stand firm and they went into the break with a one-goal advantage.Chiefs went agonisingly close to leveling matters 10 minutes into the second as Bernard Parker’s header crashed against the post.
The hosts continued to enjoy most of the possession as the half went on, but they struggled to in the final third as SuperSport were content to sit back.Joseph Molangoane was introduced in the 73rd minute and he nearly leveled matters three minutes later when he rattled the upright from 12-yards out.
Kompphela opted for another change in the 82nd minute as Bhongolwethu Jayiya made his official Chiefs debut, replacing Bernard Parker.Chiefs pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages of the second half, but were unable to bypass Williams and the SuperSport defence, as they crash out at the first hurdle.
