Jacob Zuma check-up disrupts case, security beefed up at court house: Pics. The court was to hear an application by former President Jacob Zuma, who wanted Advocate Billy Downer to recuse himself, but it was a virtual sitting. Security was beefed up outside Pietermaritzburg High Court today, on Tuesday, 10 August.

Compared to the last time, there was more police visibility and roadblocks around the court. Soldiers were also seen outside. Razorwire was visible around the entire parking area where the supporters’ stand normally is and also blocked the road.

But the former president’s supporters couldn’t be seen near the court. Meanwhile, Zuma was suddenly hospitalised, changing things about his court appearance. Correctional Services announced he had been hospitalised for a routine medical check-up by military health services.

It was hoped the check-up would be quick and that Zuma would be back in Estcourt and ready to make his way to Pietermaritzburg.

But that turned out to not be the case, as by Monday afternoon all parties concerned, including the NPA and Zuma’s lawyers, argued that Tuesday’s sitting would be about seeking a postponement.
