TO THE cops she was a valued crime-fighter . . . but at this pharmacy, she’s a thief!
Retired brigadier Delisiwe Motha (45) of Trichardt near Secunda, Mpumalanga, has left the service after 24 years. In that time she ran three cop shops and was a cluster commander.
But at Kosmos Pharmacy in Secunda, she is known as a common thief!
“They told me I’m a thief who walks into pharmacies in town and steals medicine,” she said.
“The pharmacist told me this to my face.”
Delisiwe bought medication at the pharmacy but as she was walking out she was stopped at the door. “The security guard asked to search my bag,” she said.
“I was shocked as many other people, mostly white, simply walked out and weren’t searched,” Delisiwe said.
She said she allowed the guard to search her bag.
“When I asked why he had targeted me he said he was just doing his job.
“Then the pharmacist stepped up and ordered me to get out of the store as I was causing a scene. He said I was a known thief who steals from pharmacies in town,” Delisiwe said.
Now Delisiwe wants an apology. She wants the pharmacy workers to stop assuming that it is only black people who steal.
Kosmos Pharmacy owner Stefan van Hyssteen said there was nothing racist about the incident. He denied that Delisiwe was accused of being a known thief.
“This customer was pointed out by one of our employees for possible theft and I personally confronted her,” he said.
