Arsenal striker Oliver Giroud won the Puskas award for the first time for his scorpion kick against Crystal Palace in the Premier League last season.
IT was a glorious evening in London, where Baroka FC goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke became the first ever South African player to be part of the glittering Fifa event.
The France international striker beat out Masuluke and Venezuela’s Deyna Castellanos for the award.
Real Madrid and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo lifted the main award while, Masuluke who is the first goalkeeper to be nominated for the Puskas Award missed out.
Ronaldo retained his FIFA men’s player of the year crown, beating Lionel Messi and Neymar to earn the accolade of the world’s best footballer.
The 32-year-old Real Madrid star picked up the award ahead of his rivals from Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain on the back of triumphs in La Liga and the Champions League last season.
Ronaldo has scored 44 goals for club and country so far in 2017 and scored twice in the Champions League final in June as Real retained the trophy and became European champions for a record-extending 12th time.
