GOGO Nogaleleka has to sleep with one eye open.
That’s because a snake has found its way into her shack at Waterworks, Protea Glen and it won’t leave.
Gogo Nogaleleka Mampunga (73) said when darkness comes, she lies waiting for her worst nightmare to arrive.
She said the snake had been in her shack since January.
“The snake lives between the zinc sheets. I see it all the time,” she said.

“In 1996, I applied for an RDP. But all my papers were destroyed in a fire. I have explained this to the Westonaria municipal officials but they said I must be patient while they check my records,” said gogo Nogaleleka.
A neighbour, Sipho Nkabinde (32), told Daily Sun the gogo’s case is different.
“She can’t be traumatised by a snake and be forced to live here. The snake is huge,” said Sipho.
Yesterday, the SunTeam was shown a big hole leading into the snake’s home.
Gauteng Human Settlements spokesman Keith Khoza said the department was doing all it could to prioritise the elderly, people with disabilities and child-headed families with housing.
“We ask the gogo to go to the nearest human settlements offices with her ID to reaffirm her position on the list of people who have applied for RDPs. Her case must get special attention,” said Khoza.
