A KwaZulu-Natal family is devastated after a 17-year-old girl was allegedly stabbed to death by a boyfriend she had met on Facebook.
Rashmika Janthilayal had been living with relatives in Pietermaritzburg while studying to become a hairdresser.
She was apparently stabbed repeatedly by her on-off 19-year-old boyfriend on Monday morning during an argument at her campus.
The girl’s devastated aunt, Abigail Ramsahai, said the couple had met on Facebook.
“ Two weeks ago he went to her campus and did wheelspins with his car. This scared Rashmika. She came home crying.”
She added the teen had started threatening Rashmika’s parents and they were thinking about seeking a court interdict against him, but also believed they could rationalise with him.
“We never thought it would come to this. She had big dreams of working on a cruise ship as a hairdresser and was set to graduate next week.”
The girl’s mother did not want to talk about her daughter’s death. “All I can say is that there is a God and he will make a way.”
The young man was arrested and will appear in court soon.
