Now the 46-year-old man is behind bars for allegedly raping his nine-year-old neighbour on Tuesday.
The incident happened in Kagiso, west of Joburg.
But that was not the first time, according to the girl’s mum. She believes it started in December when the man’s girlfriend went on holiday.
It is alleged that on Tuesday the suspect called the young girl into his house.
He asked her if she would tell people what was going to happen.
When the girl said no, it is alleged that he ordered her to take off her clothes.
After raping her, he gave her R1 and told her to keep quiet about it – but she did not.
The girl told her friend, who told her own mother.
“That is when she told us everything. I am really shocked because he is a humble man who loves children,” said the mum.
The girl, a grade 3 pupil, did not tell her mother because she said she was afraid that she would be punished.
The suspect is described by the girl’s mum as someone who is forever surrounded by kids and who gives them sweets.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said the suspect was arrested and is facing a charge of statutory rape.
He made his first appearance at the Krugersdorp Magistrates Court on Wednesday and will appear again next week.
