Nicholas, real name Thato Molamu, was given an ultimatum by his bosses to lose weight.
As a result, the actor has started going to gym twice a day to lose the umkhaba.
Sunday Sun understands that the Generations wardrobe is expensive and the producers can’t deal with belly buttons coming off.
“Most of the actors are asked to lose weight if they do gain, especially lead characters. He will look out of character and the expensive wardrobe won’t fit.
“It’s usually not a threat, but you could be written out of the script,” said an insider.
The mole added: “They told him if he doesn’t lose weight, they will write him off.
“Now he gets busy at Virgin Active to cut down the fat.
“Nic has developed an umkhaba and a butt. Now he has no choice but to really work on his body.”
A source at the gym confirmed that the star works out twice a day, but didn’t reveal what his motivation was.
A friend at the gym, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: “Thato told me the soapie bosses told him to lose weight or he would lose his job. He eats a lot of junk food and combining it with too much alcohol is a bad habit.
“Every weekend they buy take aways,” the close friend said.
The source added that Nicholas stopped going to gym late last year and that’s when he gave in to junk food.
“He’s gained some meat. I was with him at the Jack Daniels Music Scouts in Newtown towards the end of January,” said a fellow actor.
When contacted for comment, Generations creator, Mfundi Vundla, refused to comment.
On Wednesday, Sunday Sun confronted Nicholas at the SABC Henley tv facilities.
He said: “Why did you have to ambush me?
“You know I’m not going to comment, right?”
