Farmer shoots 11 year old in Swartruggens
A man has been arrested for allegedly shooting and wounding an 11-year-old girl on his farm in Swartruggens in the North West.
The farmer handed himself over to the police on Thursday following Wednesday’s shooting.
North West police’s Sabata Mokgwabone says that the 11-year-old and her friends had been collecting fire wood on the farmer’s land when he shouted and shot at them.
“The bullet was lodged inside but she was also taken to the hospital to try and remove it. The investigation into the matter continues.”
Mokgwabone says the suspect has been charged with attempted murder and will appear before the local magistrates’ court soon.
A 16-year-old boy was allegedly murdered by farm workers just two months ago at another farm in Coligny.
