MZANSI has once again been shocked by the arrest of a young mum after the death of her baby.
A 23-year-old mum from Diepsloot, north of Joburg, appeared in court recently in connection with murder and child neglect charges.
Celebrity mums shared their thoughts on the tragedy.
Singer Nhlanhla Nciza of Mafikizolo said no mum would intentionally hurt her child.
“We need to let people know that there are alternatives such as
orphanages and foster homes.
“Mums sometimes feel helpless because they don’t have enough money to feed their kids.”
Socialite and Sunday Sun columnist Khanyi Mbau said most people don’t understand the challenges of motherhood… and we shouldn’t judge.
She pleaded for better support for women.
Veteran actress and grandmother Lillian Dube said: “It’s a painful thing to even think about, let alone discuss,” she said.
“Such things raise my blood pressure,” said Lillian.
The latest child killing was the fourth in the troubled kasi.
Vanessa Hani, head of Agang’s Women’s Forum, said Diepsloot was a crisis area.
“Although this terrible crime against children happens in other parts of the country too, Diepsloot has experienced far too many of the brutal killings.
“We call for action. The community must watch for possible dangers in order to protect our children.
“We all need to come up with
effective ways to fight this kind of thing.”
