CAR ACCIDENT PILE-UP SHOCKS RESIDENTS
A pedestrian said when she saw a car speeding past her, she knew a tragedy was about to happen.
The woman from B section in KwaMashu, north of Durban, said she saw three cars collide at the intersection of Queen Nandi Drive and Malandela Road in KwaMashu on Monday.
She was walking home when she saw a white Toyota Etios driving down Malandela Roadat high speed towards a robot.
“The driver lost control of the car and I saw it suddenly swerving from Malandela Road to Queen Nandi Drive.
“It collided with a Mercedes-Benz and then an Audi.
“Both cars were coming from Queen Nandi Drive.”
She said she panicked as she thought the people in the cars were dead.
“Other residents rushed to the cars to check on the drivers. Three of them were injured,” she said.
The mother of the Etios driver from B Section, Ntombenhle Makhaye (42), told Daily Sun residents told her about the accident.
“I went with my son to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital.
“He didn’t sustain any injuries but he’s been vomiting a lot. I don’t know much about the accident. I’ll have to wait for him to tell me what happened,” she said.
Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane, KZN police spokesman, confirmed the accident at the corner of Malandela and Queen Nandi Drive.
“A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened for investigation at KwaMashu SAPS,” said Zwane.
