PHILILE Msani’s boyfriend came back from work on Thursday afternoon with two men he introduced to her as his friends.
But Philile’s kindness towards them aroused such jealousy in him, he apparently ended up burning her with petrol.
The 28-year-old mum from Glebe Hostel in Umlazi, south of Durban, ended up at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital, fighting for her life.
Nomusa Msani (25), said when her sister’s boyfriend got back from the spaza, he found her sister chatting and laughing with the men as she was preparing food.
“He fumed and chased them away, accusing them of trying to take his girlfriend away.
“He locked the door and beat my sister up. When he was finished beating her, he poured petrol all over her body and set her alight.
“We were there but couldn’t help, fearing for our own lives,” said Nomusa.
She said if it were not for the neighbours, who quickly came to her rescue, she would be dead. “The neighbours came in large numbers to help put out the blaze.
“She sustained serious injuries all over her body and is in a very critical condition in hospital. She can’t even speak and we are very happy her boyfriend was arrested. These two started living together 10 years ago and they have an 11-year-old son together.”
Colonel Jay Naicker said a case of attempted murder was opened at Umlazi Police Station.
